Tomb Raider: Survival Edition (2013) was developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It is a reboot of the legendary Tomb Raider franchise. This edition represents a revisiting of the origin story of Lara Croft, changing her from a young archaeologist into a hardened survivor. The game combines storytelling with intense action, survival mechanics and exploration. For Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and later on next-gen platforms it was released in 2013. Digital extras like a digital mini-art book, a digital comic and an in-game weapon pack are included in the Survival Edition.
A semi-open world with areas to explore and revisit, dynamic combat mechanics using firearms, bows and stealth as well as puzzle-solving, platforming and crafting systems are the key features. Realistic physics, weather effects and character animations powered by Crystal Engine are also the game’s features. Players can gather resources, hunt animals and upgrade weapons and gear at base camps. The immersion is enhanced by QTEs (Quick Time Events) and cinematic camera work.
