Mortal Kombat 4 was developed and released by Midway Games in 1997 and the fourth main entry in the legendary Mortal Kombat fighting game series. The previous Mortal Kombat games used digitized sprites, where real actors were filmed and then imported into the game as 2D images. The transition to 3D involved creating characters using polygon models, which are three-dimensional shapes built from vertices and polygons. Bringing a new level of immersion and realism to the combat experience.

Quan Chi and Shinook lead the Earthrealm defenders fighting against the sinister force of Outworld which is continued saga. New chapters Scorpion, sub-zero Liu-Kiang and Raiden are introduced which are fan-favorites. The inclusion of interactive weapons scattered throughout arenas that players could wield for additional damage or throw at opponents that add strategic depth to battles, are the most notable features.
